It’s been widely known since it was announced back in December that Tecmo Koei would be handling development duties on the upcoming Hyrule Warriors, but what wasn’t common knowledge until recently is that Team Ninja is part of the project. Along with developer Omega Force, which traditionally handles development duties on the company’s Dynasty Warriors series, Team Ninja will be contributing to Link’s newest spin-off game.
Story details for Hyrule Warriors are ephemeral at best, but what little has been revealed seems to suggest that Link is on a quest… to save Zelda. Who has been kidnapped. Again. Not that Nintendo doesn’t know how to make that old song fun and different every time, of course. The game is focused on combat versus the usual cerebral exploration and puzzle solving fans are used to, but traditionalists don’t despair just yet; there seems to be a good deal of depth to the fisticuffs.
Team Ninja can’t ever seem to avoid those jiggle mechanics…
There are various weapon types to be found and used, each of which alters combat in different ways. Team Ninja will be implementing a variation of the Zelda series’ signature Z-targeting mechanic, along with other familiar moves like Link’s Spin Attack. Besides Link, players will also be able to select Impa as a playable character, and others have been promised (though not named). While there’s been no word on a Western release date, Hyrule Warriors drops in Japan August 14, with a hefty collectors edition in tow that features a Triforce clock and six character costumes. Hopefully, we’ll hear word of the package coming West along with a release date at this year’s E3.

Oh no! Did anyone at Nintendo play metroid: other m?
Hey now, Other M PLAYED ok, it just sucked storywise. And that was Samus’s creator’s fault, not Team Ninja! =P Lol, I’m trying to keep my hopes up, just ignore me…
Lol, I kid. It wasn’t a bad game by any means, it just wasn’t up to par with the high standards set by the other games. Bet if it wouldn’t have been a metroid game I would have enjoyed it more
