Wii U Getting GameCube-Inspired Controllers

The Wired Fight Pad will be released around the same time as Super Smash Bros. Wii U!

In one of the most brilliant moves ever, PDP announced that it is partnering with Nintendo to produce GameCube-inspired controllers called Wired Fight Pads for use with Wii U. The controllers will plug into the bottom of a Wii Remote, much like Wii’s Classic Controllers did, and can even be used with some some Virtual Console releases!

The new peripheral will be launching around the time of Super Smash Bros. Wii U, and is said to come in an assortment of varieties featuring various Nintendo characters. This writer would just like to point out that the notion of a GameCube Fight Pad was his idea dating back to the days of Super Smash Bros. Brawl… but, alas, no one cares.

Are you stoked to play Smash Bros. the way it was meant to be, with a GameCube controller? Are you a Wii Remote and Nunchuk convert? Let us know in the comments!

I had come to accept the reality that it was time to adapt to a new controller, so my reaction to this is mixed. I got a Wii U pro controller before I even purchased a Wii U just for this Smash Bros. However, returning to a familiar playstyle is very tempting.

Tough one, but I guess I’ll wait to see if the peripheral is quality before worrying about it.

For some real nostalgia, I’d play Windwaker HD with it! That takes me back… and Nintendo needs more Gamecube games remakes.

I recently got back into the original Animal Crossing (none of the sequels have lived up to it; haven’t even tried the new 3DS one) and I absolutely love the GameCube controller. If this accessory lives up to the feel of the real thing, I will pick one up immediately.

Any word on rumble? Are there any non-artist’s-imagination images of this thing?
