This weekend is all about a little game called Bravely Default!

Welcome back to another edition of Week: End Game: On! What games are the Dojo staffers playing this weekend? Read on to find out!

After months of repair time, my 3DS should finally be back soon! Being that I do not have it yet, I still don’t know what I’ll be playing when I finally get it. But, if I had to hypothetically choose some games, I know what I’d have in mind!

I feel like I would want to try out The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. That game has gotten so much praise from Zelda fans, leading it to pique my curiosity. I wonder, does it live up to the hype? Only time will tell for me, I suppose!

There’s also Bravely Default as well! I’ve been craving a good JRPG experience on a Nintendo platform since Shin Megami Tensei IV, but I don’t even know if I’ll have time for it! Bravely Default has a wealth of content to explore, which could serve as a problem against my busy schedule. I’ll keep my eye on it though, as it definitely looks like a game worth getting.

I also want to try out either Retro City Rampage: DX or 3D Galaxy Force II. The former is an 8-bit homage to retro gaming with Grand Theft Auto-like gameplay, and the latter is a remade version of an on-rails Sega
classic with stereoscopic 3D. Both games can be found on the eShop and are terrific additions to a fantastic online store. I’ll probably wind up buying both because they look so good!

Okay, I seriously need to stop talking about 3DS games. I miss my system too much!

I’ve been in a little bit of a gaming slump lately. I don’t feel like playing anything in my backlog, and nothing new has caught my attention since Nidhogg a few weeks back. Luckily that all changes with the release of Bravely Default, which I will happily sink 50+ hours into I’m sure. I put about 10 hours into the demo because I wanted to see and do everything, and while I’m a little bummed that not all of that progress carries over, I’m excited to finally get my journey started for real. At least I get to keep my villagers!

Other than that, Dota 2 recently had a big update titled New Bloom that added two new heroes and one amazing new gameplay mode. I haven’t had a chance to really dig into any of it yet and I hope I find some time this weekend.

The only game I have been playing this week is Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. There is so much to do on the side that it’s been keeping me fully occupied– I’m at 92 percent completion now though.

The gameplay itself is still awesome (even with a few cracks appearing), but I was only really able to follow the story towards the end. It hasn’t quite matched that of Assassin’s Creed II, but Edward is definitely more likeable than Connor from the last entry in the series.

I still can’t help but wonder what’s next for the series though, especially with Watch Dogs coming out this year…

I’m still plugging away at Super Mario 3D World. Right now, I’m sitting at 229 stars, with 11 more needed to move on to the next level. Even though I’m going back and replaying levels I’ve already beaten (in most cases multiple times), the game never ceases to put a smile on my face… even when I’m ready to throw the GamePad at the wall in a rage. It’s just that good.

I finished up with Scribblenauts Unmasked this week, and now I’ve started on Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate on 3DS. I was a bit skeptical about this one, but Robert really nailed it in his review: developer Armature has done a wonderful job of adapting the format of the Arkham console games to the 3DS. And it even features some great 3D graphics, too! Finally! A third party 3DS game that uses the handheld’s 3D abilities, rather than ignoring them. I was starting to wonder if that concept was extinct! I’ve only been able to put about 20 minutes or so into the game so far, but I hope to rectify that over the weekend.

I’ve reached the end of Somnom Woods in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, and I’m fighting a boss as Giant Luigi– I won’t say what it is, to avoid spoiling anything. I will say, though, that this fight involves some rather annoying gyroscope controls that take a long time to get used to. At one point, I couldn’t move Luigi at all! Hopefully I rectify this situation later today; I just want to be done with this boss. All the Expert Challenges have been going great, and I can’t wait to reach 1000 points.

Life is still good in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. My beach is full of hybrids, and I’m trying to get all the Ski furniture from Snowman. In the process of making yet another snowman, I accidentally propped a huge snowball on a small base, making one very sad Snowboy. At least he didn’t ravage my town as a deranged mutant killer monster snow goon– that would get messy. But I do have a hose ready, just in case.

I’ll be “bravely” going (sorry, couldn’t stop myself!) where I’ve never gone before when I play Bravely Default this weekend. And week. And probably month. I snagged the Collector’s Edition and am itching to start playing. I loved Final Fantasy: 4 Heroes of Light, so I’m hoping its spiritual successor will be equally entertaining.

I have a Sonic itch after this week’s reveal of the TMNT-eque (at least, in terms of bandaged heroes) Sonic Boom. I figure I might get into a little bit more of Lost World on 3DS and Wii U, or even some Generations on 360. Beyond that, I’m definitely still keeping up with my New Leaf town! I’ve had 9(!) dream visitors! Come dream about Oakland! Dream Address: 4900-2159-2673.

What about you? Have you also picked up a copy of Bravely Default? Or will you be spending your weekend with a different title? Let us know in the comments!

I’m still playing through the Wii U release of A Link to the Past (actually doing well this time unlike previous times), and I’m finishing up Agatha Christie’s: And Then There Were None for the Wii.

How is the Agatha Christie game? Sounds interesting…

Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS) is sucking up all of my free time lately – an easy task since I don’t have much free time. Not sure how long it will hold my interest, but for now I’m really enjoying the game.

Saturday was spent travelling with a few hours to kill in airports. Resident Evil: Revelations (3DS) got a couple of StreetPass hits so loaded up the game and ended up playing for a couple of hours. Still a great game, and I’m glad the StreetPass feature prompted me to revisit it.

I’m starting a new job on Monday, so you better believe I’m cramming every moment I can into cleaning up the backlog. After finishing Price of Persia: Warrior Within (which was disappointing) earlier this week, I decided to start Luigi’s Mansion. I’ve been flying through the game, so I should have it done before my first shift. I can’t believe I waited so long to play it!
