Masahiro Sakurai, director of the upcoming Super Smash Bros. titles for Wii U and 3DS, released a new screenshot of the mascot brawler on Miiverse today, unveiling another familiar face who’ll be appearing in the games: Skull Kid from The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask!
Before fans get too excited about this announcement, Sakurai stresses that Skull Kid will not be joining the series as a new fighter, but rather as an Assist Trophy. While this may come as a disappointment to some, his inclusion at all can be seen as yet another hint at a possible Majora’s Mask remake, which many have been clamoring for since the release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D for 3DS. (Zelda producer Eiji Anouma also dropped a few references to the N64 game in the recently released The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.)
Of course, whether or not this is the case is purely speculation at this point, but Skull Kid’s presence certainly proves that the N64 title is still very much in the minds of Nintendo’s developers, which is a good sign for those still holding out hope for a remake.
What do you think Skull Kid will do when he’s summoned in the next Super Smash Bros.? Do you hope his inclusion points to a possible Majora’s Mask remake? Let us know in the comments!
