Jools Watsham, game director at Renegade Kid, decided to give fans a status update on the studio’s upcoming games through his blog. Some of it might make you jump for joy, and others might have you in tears.
I previously wrote about my fascination with Treasurenauts, praising it for looking like a solid co-op platformer with dungeon crawling elements and treasure collecting. Yet, once I saw that another indie game, Pier Solar HD, had its holiday release pushed back to 2014, I became wary of the release dates for all upcoming eShop titles. Unfortunately, my suspicions about Treasurenauts came true, as it has been pushed back for a Q1 2014 release date. Watsham assures that this is best course of action for the game because they needed more time to help make Treasurenauts what they want it to be.
“Sorry for the delay, but as an independent developer we rely on the success and revenue generated from each of our self-published games,” he said. “More time = better game = better sales (hopefully).”
If you live in Europe, you’ll have to wait longer for Mutant Mudds Deluxe as well. While the game has been out on Wii U in North America, Watsham said that the cost and logistical hassle of Europe’s age rating systems has prevented a speedy launch in that area.
“We will eventually get our stuff together and sort it out, but for now we’re devoting our efforts towards the development of games instead of dancing with PEGI, USK, and such,” he said. “These companies really need to learn from the ESRB, who offer a free and fast on-line service to rate indie games.”
The development of Mutant Mudds 2 has also been delayed, since the developers feel that they need to work on other 2D platforming games in order to gain a better idea of what the sequel should play like. However, it’s not all doom and gloom for Mutant Mudds fans, as Watsham promised owners of the 3DS version another free update for North America and Europe in 2014! While the contents of this update are currently unknown, the last free update gave users 20 free levels, so I expect it to be a very nice surprise!
If that wasn’t enough, Watsham said that Renegade Kid will reveal two new games next year, one of which will be revealed next month! We’ll also receive more information about Cult Country next year too, which looks to be a very promising first person survival horror game.

I wasn’t really “looking forward” to any of the games coming from Renegade Kid… until a certain Top 10 article popped up not long ago:
https://www.nintendojo.com/features/columns/top-ten/top-ten-most-anticipated-indie-games
Since reading that article I’ve actually been keen to find out more about Treasurenauts. News of a delay brings mixed feelings, but the whole “more time = better game” idea is one that I can get behind.
AHH! I wrote that article! Haha I’m glad I was able to draw someone’s attention to upcoming indie games on the eShop with my top ten piece. This made my day :)
I totally agree though. I want the game out now, but refining the quality of the game should definitely take precedent over the release date.
