Nintendo’s showing at this year’s E3 certainly felt like a bit of déjà vu for long-time Metroid fans. The dual announcements of Metroid Prime 4 and Metroid: Samus Returns certainly felt a bit reminiscent of 2002 when Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion were released for GameCube and Game Boy Advance, respectively. This fall, fans will get another callback to that particular era when Samus’ Fusion suit makes an appearance in Samus Returns!
The suit is unlocked by scanning the new Metroid Amiibo. After beating the game, Fusion mode is unlocked, alongside the suit. The Metroid Amiibo also shows players the location of the nearest Metroid in the game. Samus Aran’s various Amiibo incarnations also unlock things once the game is cleared: Zero Suit Samus unlocks a sound test, the original Samus Amiibo unlocks concept art and the new Samus Amiibo unlocks concept art from Metroid II: The Return of Samus! Each Samus Amiibo can also restore either the heroine’s Aeion Reserve Tank, Missile Reserve Tank or Energy Reserve Tank.
