Someone Has Jailbroken Nintendo Switch 2

The software used for the exploit has already been removed from the eShop.

If there’s anything hackers and modders and pirates and the like love to do, it’s jailbreak a new game console. Nintendo Switch 2 has been on the market for over year, and has seemingly been jailbroken for the first time. The word broke via X from the user pepsipu, who posted the following to the account:

This hack is achieved through the use of software, SmileBASIC 4.4.9, and is made to work with Version 23.0.1 of the Nintendo Switch 2 firmware. It’s a fairly complicated setup which pepsipu details on his blog, with users needing to have the aforementioned software, a Switch 1, and a Switch 2 to pull off. A big caveat here is that the jailbreak must be reset every time the console is turned off. Another catch is that Nintendo has already delisted SmileBASIC 4.4.9, even if anyone would like to try the exploit, the game needed to make it work is no longer available via the eShop.

Nintendo has not directly responded to anything regarding this hack, beyond delising SmileBASIC 4.4.9. It’s worth noting that pepsipu utilized OpenAI to help with this jailbreak, meaning more might be on the way and faster than ever. It’s going to be tough for Nintendo to navigate this as AI continues to grow in power and ubiquity.
