As revealed this past Monday, Lucina and Robin (of Fire Emblem Awakening fame) will be joining the roster of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS. Some fans were a bit surprised in particular by Lucina’s addition, especially given her similarities to Marth that were established in Awakening. Those who worried Lucina might be nothing more than a Marth clone in the upcoming brawler can rest easy, though, according to Smash‘s stalwart developer Masahiro Sakurai.
Speaking on Miiverse, Sakurai notes that Lucina does bear many similarities to Marth’s fighting style in Smash Bros., but the differences between the two fighters allows them to shine independently. Lucina, for instance, does not have the brunt of her power focused at the tip of her sword like Marth; instead, her strength emanates throughout the entirety of her blade. Sakurai states that this seemingly small difference (along with her being a bit shorter than Marth), makes her easier to control during battle.
Do you think that the roster of the next Smash Bros. is balanced enough? Do you feel there should be even more characters than have already been revealed? Speak out in the comments!
