YouTuber Pixelkabinett has created a huge, sprawling level in an early copy of Super Mario Maker designed to mimic the progression of a level from the Metroid series. The level truly shows the creativity possible in the game. It includes branching pathways, backtracking, and even progression via the use of Mario’s power-ups to pass obstacles. You can see the level below:
The design suffers from the fact that the level timer in Super Mario Maker cannot be turned off, but it is an incredible showcase of level design nonetheless. Hopefully we can expect many more interesting and creative levels that change what we thought was possible in a Mario game. And perhaps a future patch will grant creators the ability to turn off the timer so longer and deeper stage designs can be explored.
What other types of games will be emulated in Super Mario Maker? I can’t wait to see what the community creates!
Looks good. This game looks more promising every day, even though I just want to play the 100 levels it comes with.
