Last week, reports began to emerge that the rumored Gold Mario Amiibo would be released in the United States exclusively at Walmart. Today, Nintendo of America officially confirmed those reports, announcing that the figure would only be available at 3,000 Walmart stores across the country. (And, in what has become a disheartening trend for Nintendo fans, the figure sold out of pre-orders within minutes of the announcement.)
The Gold Mario Amiibo is scheduled to be released on March 20, the same day as Mario Party 10, with which it will be compatible. The figure will retail for $12.96.

It’s amazing how fast Amiibo are selling out. On one hand, it’s frustrating, but on the other, I’m happy with how much success Nintendo has seen with the limited release items. And I kinda like the novelty of having something that’s harder to come by.
I’ve given up on trying to pre-order these rare retailer exclusive Amiibos. I have been collecting the ones that are easier to find. I’m enjoying my collection so far. Maybe the silver Mario Amiibo will be easier to obtain…
