An item listing for a Wii U game called “Yoshi’s Land” has suspiciously appeared on the Best Buy and Future Shop websites. The game is priced at $59.99 with a tentative release of 2013. Best Buy’s listing even included a description!
According to Polygon, the product description read:
“Take Yoshi on an epic adventure to remember in Yoshi Land for Nintendo Wii U. Check out Yoshi as you’ve never seen him before: in glorious high definition. Enjoy dual-screen control thanks to the Wii U Touchscreen GamePad, while you’ll also be able to experience full integration with Nintendo’s MiiVerse service.”
Could this be real evidence that our favorite green dinosaur will be getting a new Wii U game? If so, this will be Yoshi’s first home console game since Yoshi’s Story in 1998. I for one, salivate at the idea of having a new Yoshi game done like Donkey Kong Country Returns. In fact, could the new Yoshi game possibly even be made by Retro Studios?
Shortly after the Wii U launch in America, a user actually accidentally stumbled on a Miiverse debug menu which had a section for a Yoshi game. That, combined with the retail listings, really makes the Yoshi game sound like it will be a thing. Keep in mind that Best Buy also had the Wii Mini listed up on its site before Nintendo announced it, and that turned out to be real.
Also, both Best Buy and Future Shop have taken down the listings since this story has been reported on. If that’s not even more evidence the Yoshi game is real, I don’t know what is.

Omg this are great news if true! I hope its a sequel for yoshi island, with that amazing cranyons graphics on hd.
God, I hope this is true. I absolutely loved Yoshi’s Island. Easily one of the SNES’ finest.
PLEASE be true! Yoshi’s Island holds a very special place in my heart.
Oh, how I love Yoshi’s Island. That is probably my favorite childhood game, and I’ve had a soft spot for the green dino ever since (I’m wearing a Yoshi shirt right now, bwahahaha!). The moment this is confirmed to be a real thing, my 3DS is going on Craigslist.
One question though… Is this what Retro had been doing? I mean, this was already postulated as being Retro’s next game, since it was supposed to be featuring a “handrawn” art style. My theory is, this is what Retro has been working on, BUUT the recent studio expansion and hiring frenzy is for another title that is likely on a grander scale.
This probably means that the Metroid game Miyamoto hinted at is likely not by Retro… Who could be developing that, then?
Yeah Retro had a bunch of new hires of people from studios like Naughty Dog. I think you may be on to something. In the beginning, Retro had several Gamecube games in development, before they dropped all of the ideas and solely worked on Metroid Prime. Since then Retro has been a one-game-at-a-time sort of dev. Could they be working on multiple titles? (Please be Zelda, please be Zelda).
For Metroid, I would love to see it fall back into the hands of Nintendo EAD, the folks who brought us Super Metroid. Imagine the tricks they could do with Samus after creating the amazing Mario Galaxy and 3D Land games.
