News Desk: Nintendo Profits, But Misses Forecast

Do companies ever match their forecasts?

Global Wii U sales are at 3.45 million units sold. Global 3DS sales are at 31 million units sold. However, both missed the targeted figures of 4 million Wii U units and 15 million 3DS units in the last fiscal year. Likewise, game sales for Paper Mario: Sticker Stars, New Super Mario Bros. 2, Mario Kart 7, and Super Mario 3D Land did not generate enough interest to reach projected figures.

On the home console front, New Super Mario Bros. U has sold 2.15 million units and Nintendo Land has sold 2.6 million units. Profits missed projected figures due to the delay of anticipated titles originally scheduled for the launch window.

Last fiscal year, Nintendo counted a profit of $71 million, half of the projected $140 million. Nintendo plans to sell 9 million Wii U units and 18 million 3DS units in the upcoming fiscal year to return to “Nintendo-like” profits.

I am sure that console sales will rise once landmark games are released. I am still playing the waiting game!

I find this encouraging news considering that 2012 was a year where Nintendo expended massive amounts of capital manufacturing a new console (not to mention increased numbers of 3DS).
