News Desk Masthead - Pikmin

When Nintendo unveiled Pikmin 3 at E3, the company confirmed the original Red, Yellow, and Blue Pikmin would be back and then unveiled a new Rock Pikmin. Then, during the most recent Nintendo Direct, the company confirmed the addition of the pink Winged Pikmin, which was actually teased at E3 when one flew through the frame during the initial trailer. Now it looks like these five Pikmin will be joined by the two that made their first appearance in Pikmin 2.

Some new artwork was recently uploaded at the game’s Japanese website that clearly shows the White and Purple Pikmin hanging out with the rest of their flowery species already confirmed for Pikmin 3. For those unfamiliar with, or new to, the franchise, the White Pikmin is the speediest of the group and is sort of a kamikaze combatant, poisoning any foe that dares to eat it. On the other end of the spectrum is the Purple Pikmin, a slower, heavier brute of a creature that can hit harder and carry more than the rest.

With seven different Pikmin with a variety of different strengths, weaknesses, and special abilities, Nintendo obviously has plenty of options for putting together fun and interesting puzzles and combat scenarios as it moves into the final few months of Pikmin 3’s development. Of course we will have to wait for the game’s August release to get to experience whatever crazy ideas the company cooks up.
