If the thought of having an actual motion tracker in the palm of your hand doesn’t ignite your inner Alien fan, then I don’t know what will. Developed by Gearbox, the minds behind Borderlands and Brothers In Arms, Aliens: Colonial Marines is one FPS you won’t want to miss if you want a different breed of action-horror game.
It’s set 17 weeks after all contact has been lost with Hadley’s Hope, making this a sequel to James Cameron’s Aliens. You play as one of the colonial marines returning to LV-426 to take part in a rescue operation, but you soon realise there’s a whole lot more waiting for you than you first realised– including a new species of Xenomorph.
But what does the Wii U version have to offer? Well, Randy Pitchford, CEO and President of Gearbox, believes that the nature of the Alien universe and the Wii U GamePad is “a perfect fit”. Along with classic colonial marine weapons like pulse rifles and flamethrowers, the GamePad will become the iconic motion tracker, allowing you to scan the environment around you and hunt out Xenomorphs lurking in the darkness.
But he also says that this is “just scratching the surface” of Wii U’s capabilities, so watch this space for more details in the coming months.
