5) Theatrhythm Final Fantasy
Released: Nintendo 3DS, 2012
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy was almost like the Smash Bros. of Final Fantasy. The entire battery of mainline Final Fantasy games was given a massive celebration with Theatrhythm, but rather than see the characters slug it out, they were instead flung into a simple quest where their battles were completed via stylus strokes! A huge compilation of Final Fantasy tunes played in the background of three different modes of rhythm games. It was a joy to assemble a party of classic characters, hear songs from the history of the series, and drag and tap the stylus along to the beat. Joined with the game’s wealth of DLC, it’s amazing Square Enix had any music left for the game’s sequel! Whether a fan of FF or music games in general, Theatrhythm is one of the best there is.
I don’t really like music games… but have to admit this list has a lot of quality software on it.
My only complaints:
* Donkey Konga and Mario DDR were great ideas but Nintendo needed more remixed NES tracks and fewer public domain songs thrown into the mix
* Rock Band 2 should be replaced by The Beatles Rock Band (not because Rock Band 2 is bad, but because The Beatles version is just that awesome)
;)
