“I’m glad I had a chance to live.”

Kurow is one of Chibiterasu’s traveling companions throughout the game. He’s a bit of a cocky fellow, but he has a very strong sense of honor and believes in justice and standing up for yourself. He’s also a little bit of a coward, though, and was pretty much a loner until he joined up with Chibiterasu. What they didn’t know, however, was the reason why Kurow was such a loner, and this is what makes his story all the more tragic.

In the final fight against Akuro, Kurow is revealed to be a doll who was designed by Waka to contain Akuro. This is why he purposely made himself out to be a loner, so that when the time came to sacrifice his life in order to save the world, it wouldn’t be so painful and heartbreaking. But fate had other plans for Kurow and he ended up meeting Chibi, leaving us stuck with a situation where we’re forced to kill one of our own partners in the last battle.

As Kurow lies dying after the final blow has been struck, he remembers all the adventures he had and all the people he met along the way, and he slowly comes to realize that he’s not just an empty, soulless doll after all. No, he’s his own person with real emotions and his own experiences, and in his final moments he says that he was glad he was able to go on this journey and be Chibi’s friend. He actually had a chance to live for once, not to just exist.

It’s an incredibly sad scene, but what makes this inspiring is the brevity of Kurow’s life. He was a loner because he didn’t want to hurt others or himself. He was scared of letting himself live, and after watching this scene it’s hard not to want to walk outside and go on your own little adventure– even if it may be to the store to pick up some batteries. The moment makes you want to live a little more and show the world what you’re made of.
