Popular culture is filled with vengeful dolls, from Chucky to Annabelle and many more. Banette is essentially the Pokémon equivalent of this particular horror trope. According to the Pokédex, Banette was a doll that turned into a Pokémon thanks to a grudge over being thrown away by its owner. The Pokémon also borrows influence from voodoo dolls, as it sticks pins into itself in order to curse others.
