1: Panasonic Q
If there was one feature the GameCube was lacking (and one which potentially lost it millions of sales), it was DVD playback. After the Dreamcast was pulled from the market in 2001, the GameCube, which used 8cm mini-DVDs for game storage, was the only system not to play back movies by this method. Panasonic attempted to rectify the situation by bringing out the Panasonic Q, a multimedia GameCube with a steel case and dark grey controller. Unfortunately for Nintendo, it never took off and never made it outside of Japan – it will now set you back several hundred dollars on eBay.
And there we have it! Can you think of any examples I’ve neglected to include? Let me know in the comments below!
Triforce Game Boy Advance SP?! That thing looks amazing, and it’s even the same color as the Wii remote that came with Skyward Sword! But I am quite fond of Minish Cap.
Whaaaat? No Ocarina of Time 3DS!? That thing was beautiful! XD
Well I did consider that one, but I didn’t want to use both the 3DS and the GBA SP because they’re quite similar. I’m also a child of the GBA era and I’m quite nostalgic for it; the simplicity and colour of the Triforce SP really appeals :)
Pretty good list. You could have taken things one step further with the GBA SP Triforce edition and listed the one that Miyamoto signed.
Also, I like the Pikachu 3DS XL, but I think the Charizard 3DS XL that was announced recently for Pokémon Centers in Japan beats it for the awesome factor.
Sadly, I’ve never had the opportunity to own a special edition console.. I always get mine day one :(
I would have put the Zelda 3DS! I was considering selling mine just to get that one!
I know what you mean – I’ve rarely seen any of the items on this list, aside from the N64 which I couldn’t quite afford. They’re best to pick up just after release because they often disappear quickly.
