Last week, Nintendo revealed a new redesign of their popular Wii console– the Wii Mini. It’s an odd decision, to say the least, and certainly unexpected. After all, Nintendo only just launched Wii U a few weeks ago, and that’s a brand new console. So why create a new Wii when it’s already been confirmed that there aren’t any more Wii games in the pipeline? We have no idea– and we’re certainly not going to try second-guessing Miyamoto on the reason behind its conception either.
We may have only just got our Wii Us, but hot damn that’s a mighty fine console!
Regardless of whether it’s the most ill-timed redesign in the history of consoles, though, we can’t deny it has a certain charm to it. That bright red casing, that rough, black matte finish… It’s certainly got a whole lot more character than the original white one, that’s for sure. And for $100, well, it would almost be rude not to. The question is, though, do you want one? We know it’s not coming to the UK any time soon, but if it does manage to jump the fence from being a Canadian exclusive, is the new design enough to tempt you to buy one? Let us know in the comments below (and don’t forget to vote in our poll)!

There’s a strange trend that seems to be unique to game consoles: Later hardware revisions often remove features that the original device had.
– NES mini was RF-only, no more RCA output
– Original PS1 had RCA-out too, later models needed Sony’s connector.
– late-model GameCubes removed component-out
– newer DSes no longer play GBA carts
– PS3 slim can’t dual-boot into Linux or run PS2 games
– late-model Wiis remove GC compatibility and networking
I know it’s usually done to reduce manufacturing costs (or in Sony’s case, just to be dicks) but nowhere else in the field of electronics do you see the trend of “wait a few years and get a cheaper one with _less_ features”.
I know what you mean – I guess they work on the presumption that nobody uses those features after that time, but that’s clearly the case and you’d think they’d learn.
I’m assuming the WIFI will be missing in the Brit version as well. So yeah…
*still no wifi

I miss being able to comment on the polls.
My 3DS says that I have played Animal Crossing for over 3hrs; however I spent all of that time restarting so I could get pears as my native fruit. All I have accomplished so far is just setting up my tent. So, yeah I missed the Bug-Off yesterday. I saw the guy with the net standing around though!
Regarding being able to comment on polls, that’s something we could definitely bring back in the future!
