There’s bad news for Nintendo UK today after not a single Wii U exclusive managed to break into the UK Top 10 over the weekend, with Nintendo Land only coming in at No.11 after Need For Speed: Most Wanted. New Super Mario Bros. U came in fourteenth, and ZombiU only managed to break in at number seventeen, while Call of Duty: Black Ops II remained at the top the charts closely followed by Far Cry 3 and FIFA 13. The relative lack of sales can probably be put down to recent launches of very popular titles on long-standing systems with high installed bases, but Nintendo will be hoping sales pick up soon to avoid the inevitable bad publicity that poor sales attract.
But while the overall UK charts don’t make for pretty reading for Nintendo fans, the best-selling Wii U games charts is slightly more optimistic. As Nintendo Gamer states, the top spots were taken by the major exclusives– Nintendo Land, New Super Mario Bros. U and ZombiU. However, there was a shock revelation that Assassin’s Creed III, which one could reasonably have expected to sell well given its high levels of publicity recently, was outsold by the relatively unknown (and dreadfully awful) Sports Connection, the latter of which came in at number seven… Yes, the British staff all apologise for this shameful turn of events. We promise we’ll do better next time.
