8. Sin & Punishment: Star Successor (Wii, 2009, Japanese release)

This is a marvelous piece that mixes equal parts 1990s anime and an achromatic color palette to deliver an overall refined illustration. I can’t help but recognize the parallel between the controlled chaos of the cover, and the deliberate manic nature of the gameplay (which very often feels like utter chaos). The placement of the kanji also perfectly offsets the collage of characters on the right, making for a holistic experience that exudes emotional tension.
