10. Hybrid Heaven (Nintendo 64, 1999)
So little is remembered about Konami’s action-RPG hybrid that I often wonder if most people even know the game exists. Despite being released worldwide, I think I only know one person who has heard of this diamond in the rough. That being said, Hybrid Heaven’s cover art is on this list because of how clean yet aggressive it is. It’s not an overt kind of aggression, rather one of a passive nature, but there is an undeniable sense of violence in the juxtaposed cast of stoically drawn characters. Where this image truly excels, though, is in its placement of the main characters behind those in the foreground, in addition to the nice, muted blend of black and blue. For some reason, it reminds me of a late 80s/early 90s sci-fi film, a la Blade Runner.
