You’ve already got the Mario theme music playing in your head right now, don’t you? Koji Kondo started a video game music revolution way back in the 1980s when he first composed the soundtrack of Super Mario Bros., and now the music of Nintendo’s famous plumber has become just as entrenched in the history of gaming as his adventures. The tunes of the Super Mario series are catchy, lighthearted, and just plain fun– but there are times when certain tracks can suddenly come from nowhere and ramp up the excitement to epic proportions. From the familiar echo of the warp pipe to the invincible Starman theme, Mario just wouldn’t be the same without his signature sounds.
Of course, at Nintendojo we feel compelled to sort everything into Top Ten lists, so why not do Mario music too? I have dived deep into the mustachioed heroes greatest games and emerged with what I believe to be a sure list of his platinum tracks. The music can come from any game starring Mario, be it a platformer, a spinoff, or a role-playing adventure. Now, Mario has more memorable music than a Lakitu has Spinies, so there’s bound to be some disagreement as to what tunes come out on top and how they’re ordered, but don’t feel sad if your favorites aren’t here! (Honestly I think that Mario fans tend to be less hotheaded than fans of a certain other Nintendo series we compiled a music list for).
Oh and one more thing– let’s get that one tune out of the way already, because it’s just way too obvious:
Ah, that’s an oldie but goodie, right? Hopefully that whet your appetite for some great Super Mario music because without further ado, here’s my Top Ten Greatest Super Mario Songs! Let’s-a go!
