Do ya listen to video game music? Well, do ya, punk?
Look, it ain’t like we’re confronting ya or nothin’. Some games just got them nice notes. Others … well, they just ain’t got that swing. We’re not saying ya got to listen to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time till yar ears give out. We’re saying: not every game’s got the aural equivalent of a electrified rabid two-headed squirrel. That said we know well why ya don’t listen to video game music if all ya ever played was Carnival Games, because like Solid Snake, them carnival tunes can get real old real fast.
Just let us know so we can judge ya already.

Ok, there’s a stop between “Sometimes” and “All the time” that I call “often”. And much of my game music has words, too. I still have a lot of love for the Smash Bros Orchestral CD that came with one of my Nintendo Powers many years ago. But most of my video game music comes from Final Fantasy or Castlevania.
I should probably listen to music in general a lot more than I do, but over the years I’ve purchased some game music CDs (Rockman 1-6 Techno and Rock, Super Mario Galaxy Original Soundtrack Platinum Version from eBay, Smashing… Live!, Donkey Kong Country 3 Original Soundtrack, among others). Hey, I even have the full soundtrack to Mario Party 3— what was I thinking?
Oh man, do I listen to video game music. My VG music folder currently holds nearly 12 GB of game music. I’ve got everything from the Black Mages’ albums to the OSTs for the Metroid Prime games. OC Remix’s game albums are always great as well. Their remixed Donkey Kong Country 2 album and their Metroid 25th anniversary album are excellent.
Wow, and I thought the over 2 GB of OC Remix music in my iTunes folder was a lot!
In addition to OC Remix, I’ve been downloading Jonny Death’s GaMetal work; the 37-minute Super Mario RPG piece is incredible.
Drive to the station: Bastion
Train/walk to work: The Last Story / Xenoblade / whatever mixed game soundtrack CD I have on rotation (yeah, I’m still rockin’ CDs in my ancient Sony Walkman, but there is nothing like marching out of the office listening to this version of the Metal Gear Solid: Sons of Liberty theme on max volume)
At work: whatever game music’s hiding in my Youtube favourites / USB key
At home: Bit.Trip Complete
Video game music defines my life :3
