Following the report earlier today that Nintendo is set to publish the 3DS Yo-Kai Watch games in the west, Level-5, in collaboration with Koei Tecmo, has announced the latest entry in the series, Yo-Kai Watch: Three Kingdoms. This is one of three titles in the franchise recently confirmed and is due to be released in the west as a 3DS exclusive. Little is known about the plot or how this will tie in with the previous two outings that are already available in Japan, as this not being billed as a direct sequel.
It is speculated that the 3DS exclusive will retain the games’ RPG elements and will continue to follow Keita, an 11-year-old boy who lives in a world populated by Yo-Kai, mysterious beings that can only be seen using a special watch, which enables the wearer to befriend and command the Yo-Kai to battle other Yo-Kai.
An exact release date has yet to be announced, but it seems that Level-5 is absolutely committed to making the franchise as much a success in the west as it is in Japan. Not only is the third installment in the series, Yo-Kai Watch 3, going to be set in the United States, but a spin-off title, Yo-Kai Watch Busters, will apparently pay homage to the 1986 film Ghostbusters.
