Our younger readers might not remember the days before Pokémon arrived in North America, but there was a sense of calm before the storm. Everyone knew the franchise had been massively successful in Japan, but no one knew just how big it might be when it arrived in the US.
Since then, we haven’t seen a multimedia blitzkrieg on quite the same level. That could all change this soon, however. Level-5 has confirmed that Nintendo is publishing Yo-Kai Watch sometime next year! Additionally, Viz Media has announced that manga and anime based on the massively popular games will be arriving in North America in September of this year. The company was previously responsible for adapting the Pokémon manga and anime. In February, Hasbro announced that toys based on the game would arrive in territories outside of Japan in 2016.
While the rest of the world has yet to see either game in the franchise, Yo-Kai Watch 2 was one of 2014’s biggest selling games in Japan, and the franchise has been a major pop culture hit, as well. It will be very interesting to see if the series finds similar success when it finally reaches our shores!
