It seems that just about everybody wants to see their character added to Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U. Team Meat, the indie developer behind Super Meat Boy, has thrown its 8 oz sirloin into the ring by posting the following on Twitter:

“It’s a long shot but if enough of you vote… maybe Meat Boy could be hopping around getting his ass kicked by Mario.”

A further tweet encourages followers to “make it happen. Go vote,” referring to Nintendo’s current Smash Bros. fighter ballot, where anyone can vote for the next video game character to join the battle in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U.

This comes hot on the heels of Microsoft’s Phil Spencer and his unlikely backing of Banjo, from the Banjo-Kazooie titles, to appear as Nintendo’s next playable character.

Nintendo has created quite the talking point with the Smash ballot, attracting attention from some of the most important people in the industry, as well as the thousands of Smash Bros. fans desperately voting for their favourite characters. Who will be next to add their thoughts?

This is a terrible idea that fortunately will never happen. I’d like to think they’re trolling and just having fun, but they have steadfastly refused to put their game on Nintendo systems, so Nintendo should return the favor. Moreover, Meat Boy just isn’t an interesting character, not even remotely.

Couldn’t agree more with Kroisos. This is just Team Meat jumping on the bandwagon for some free publicity. That’s fine if you don’t want to put your games on Nintendo’s consoles (I know we aren’t missing much) but don’t go thinking you can crash the smash party.

“crash the smash” Hey I just made that up. Pats self on the back.

I hope it doesn’t happen. That character doesn’t belong in a game celebrating Nintendo gaming for a whole bunch of reasons… and the push for publicity is in bad taste IMO given the history Team Meat has with big talk and no delivery on Nintendo consoles.
