Level-5 has been incredibly busy of late, announcing a plethora of new titles, not only from its Yo-Kai Watch series, but also its new cross-media project, The Snack World.
This venture will see Level-5 collaborate with a number of other companies to produce not only the game but also movies, manga, and toys, which will use NFC technology to unlock items and weapons within the game.
During the Level-5 Vision Presentation 2015, emphasis was given to the games unusual genre, “Hyper Casual Fantasy,” which will mix a fantasy setting in a real-life world. To aid with this, the NFC tech will centre on a toy version of “the Jara,” a key chain-like item which the main protagonist Chup uses in the game and in the upcoming anime. The Jara will apparently have a number of interaction capabilities and will work with both 3DS and smartphone versions.
The game will be coming to 3DS, Android, and iOS; however, it has yet to be confirmed for release on any platform in the west. Given the amount of investment into this project and that Level-5 is pushing its Yo-Kai Watch series in the US with such vigor, I can’t imagine The Snack World being very far behind.
