The ever-growing popularity of Yo-Kai Watch will seemingly never subside– in Japan. America has yet to grab a bit of of the Yo-Kai magic, but with the toys coming to the west and the games eventually getting a firm hold on the western market, we can only imagine what will come of the titles.
Yo-Kai Watch’s popularity in Japan is not something to brush off quickly or give only a passing glance, it’s a product and brand that rivals Pokémon. Knowing the intense love people have for Pokémon here in the states, transcending all generations, one can only imagine the kind of obsession seen in the eyes of the eastern market.
CoroCoro excerpt detailing Yo-kai Watch 3 and Yo-Kai Watch Busters
Yo-Kai Watch Busters, which is seemingly grabbing its name from the Ghostbusters franchise, allows for four players to simultaneously attempt to capture a boss Yo-Kai. This could be marked off as an attempt to bridge the gap between a popular franchise and the charm and lore of Luigi’s Mansion. Bringing the gameplay over to Yo-Kai would be a nice way to introduce the game to western audiences as something comical, yet something ready to takeover the market.
With new games being developed, two of them, it adds to the flame that Level-5 had devoted another semblance of love into the formation of a long-lasting video game series. Coming off the heels of Japanese favorite Inazuma Eleven, the eShop favorite Guild packages, and various Layton games, the Yo-Kai Watch invasion is something we can all look forward to.
