A recent tweet containing a video of the eShop listing for Splatoon clearly shows Amiibo listed under the “related software” section. The same user who posted the video later commented that the Splatoon listing ended up being removed from the eShop entirely.
Nintendo has, of course, remained silent on the issue, but this isn’t the first instance of Amiibo and Splatoon being mentioned together. Last week, there were reports of a South African retailer that had accidentally listed Splatoon Amiibo figures of both male and female Inklings. The listing also featured a May 29 release date, which goes along with Nintendo’s plan to release the game in May. Those posts have since been removed and Nintendo remained mute on the matter.
For now, we will have to take all speculation regarding Amiibo being integrated in Splatoon with a grain of salt, however, I don’t think I’m alone in saying that not only would such a feature be cool, but it would also make sense. Amiibo have proven to be more popular than expected, and Nintendo has been fairly aggressive in adding Amiibo features into most of its major releases, even going back to add them to games that came out before the figures. All things considered, it would be more surprising for Splatoon not to support Amiibo.

If there are amiibo for this game and if they wind up being hard to get, I will mow down people in my way. /eyetwitch
