One of E3’s more interesting announcements was Mario Maker, a title that enables players to build their own Mario levels using the Wii U GamePad. In the game’s debut trailer, character skins and items from the original Super Mario Bros., New Super Mario Bros., and Mario Paint all appeared as design options. In an interview with Nintendo World Report, producer Takashi Tezuka revealed that we might see other Mario games represented as well. According to Tezuka, the development team is considering which items and skins from across the franchise will make the cut.
It will be interesting to see exactly which games are represented in the final build. Nintendo certainly has no shortage of Mario titles to pull from. There have been eight 2D platforming titles featuring Mario as the main character since the days of the original NES, and that could mean an interesting mix. Could an 8-bit Mario ride Yoshi while exploring stages inspired by Super Mario Bros. 2? Of course, that’s all speculation, for now. The possibilities could, however, prove to be limitless.
Stay tuned to Nintendojo where we’ll have more on Mario Maker in the coming months.

I got his list right here; SMB, SMB2, SMB3, Super Mario World, and NSMB. I mean, that’s all the mainline sidescrollers, right? There should be no question what makes the cut!
