Last week, Nintendo announced that Mario Kart 8 is getting the Amiibo treatment when the NFC figures debut this fall. In the meantime, kart-racing fans can get a slightly more old-fashioned Mario Kart toy by stopping into a McDonald’s location this summer. Nintendo fans can collect seven racers including Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Bowser, Toad and Donkey Kong as well as a Mario Kart visor. We’ve mirrored the image provided by McDonald’s below.
Each character comes in a vehicle that shows off some of the customization options available in Mario Kart 8. Some characters are in traditional karts, some have karts in hover mode, and some are even on bikes. Unlike Amiibo, the toys won’t be compatible with the game itself, but they will unlock content via the McDonald’s Smart Play app.
At the moment, McDonald’s is offering toys based on How to Train Your Dragon 2, but the Mario Kart toys are advertised as the next Happy Meal promotion. There is no confirmed start date, but it should kick off sometime around the start of July. Do you plan on stopping at McDonald’s for a Mario Kart 8 toy? Let us know in the comments below!

Smart marketing move! I may find myself heading to McDonalds during July, unrelated to this news of course…
YES! I got most of the Pokemon toys that came out there not too long ago, and I’ll be getting these, too! Tasty food and Nintendo goodness for the win!
