This week, we reported on a Kickstarter campaign for Hyper Light Drifter, a 2D action RPG that was less than $60,000 away from appearing on the Wii U. Well, the fans have spoken and the game is now officially Wii U bound! Developer Heart Machine has a tentative summer 2014 release date planned for the title.
While some debate the merits of the crowdfunding approach, it’s always nice to see more content coming to Nintendo’s latest console. It also provides gamers with an opportunity to support the projects they truly believe in. While we saw Shadow of the Eternals fail to gain momentum, Hyper Light Drifter and Mighty No. 9 are both headed to the Wii U eShop thanks to Kickstarter campaigns.
Nintendojo poster Penduin recently told us about Knite and the Ghost Lights, another interesting looking game that could be Wii U bound, provided it meets its Kickstarter goals. Are there any other Kickstarter campaigns you’d like to see funded? Tell us at Nintendojo, and we’ll do our best to keep you posted on the projects we believe are worth mentioning! In the meantime, let us know if you plan on downloading Hyper Light Drifter in the comments below!

Awesome news! I love that the Wii U is getting so much attention from indie developers. It’s gotten me excited for the future of the eShop, and I cannot wait to see these games when they are released!
Although, since there are so many, it’s been really hard to keep track of them all! I’ll have to look for some sort of list to remind myself of all the new content on the way.
