Nintendo Switch 2 Has Breached 26 Million Units Sold

We also now have lists of the top ten games sold for Switch 2 and Switch.

Nintendo Switch 2 has been a hit for the company since its launch back in June of last year. Nintendo revealed today that the hybrid console now sits at a total global sales number of 26.35 million units. On the games side of things, 73.21 million units have been sold. That’s a lot of hardware and software! Nintendo has provided the following top ten list of games published for Switch 2:

  • Mario Kart World – 16.48 million units
  • Donkey Kong Bananza – 5.05 million units
  • Pokemon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition – 4.04 million units
  • Pokemon Pokopia – 4.04 million units
  • Splatoon Raiders – 2.42 million units
  • Kirby Air Riders – 1.94 million units
  • Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave – 1.34 million units
  • Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition – 1.28 million units
  • Star Fox – 1.17 million units

Nintendo Switch, meanwhile, continues to be an impactful part of the business, now sitting at a figure of 157.20 million units sold and 1,593.87 million games sold. Here’s the top ten of Nintendo Switch games that have been published:

  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 72.00 million units
  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons – 50.63 million units
  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – 38.5- million units
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 34.28 million units
  • Super Mario Odyssey – 31.06 million units
  • Pokemon Scarlet / Pokemon Violet – 28.66 million units
  • Pokemon Sword / Pokemon Shield – 27.36 million units
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – 22.90 million units
  • Super Mario Party – 21.39 million units
  • New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe – 19.22 million units

However, it’s not quite the rosy picture that Nintendo would like, as hardware sales as a whole have gone down. Compared to the same period of time 12 months ago, Nintendo saw a year-on-year decrease of 37.4% for Nintendo Switch 2 sales. Now, this sounds bad, but keep in mind that the sales for the first year of Switch 2 were a juggernaut; it would be odd if the numbers didn’t dip, frankly. However, it’s certainly not a trend Nintendo wants to continue. Hopefully next year the drop, if there is one, is minute, or better, sales go up.

With the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Switch 2 today, and the accompanying exclusive Zelda Switch 2 console that is also available, who knows—those numbers might indeed go up for 2026. We’ll keep you posted.
