In case you had forgotten, during the last Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase it was revealed that SEGA was surprisingly going to finally bring the Yakuza series to a Nintendo platform for the first time. Despite Yakuza Zero being right there, SEGA has opted to begin with Yakuza Kiwami, a remake of the first Yakuza that debuted on PlayStation 2 back in 2006. Well, after a brief wait Yakuza Kiwami is finally here on Nintendo Switch, replete with a lovely launch trailer, which you can view right here:
The Yakuza series follows the exploits of lovable mobster Kiryu, whose heart of gold frequently lands him in hot water with his fellow Yakuza, opposing clans, and even just everyday denizens of Kamurocho, a fictional district in Japan based on the real world Kabukicho. The streets of Kamurocho are rife with things to do, and not just brawling, either—there are arcade games to play, food to eat, pretty girls to stare at, and a whole lot more.

The game is available from the Nintendo Switch eShop for $19.99 right now, but if you’re willing to wait until March of next year, Limited Run Games has a physical version of Yakuza Kiwami that you can reserve, replete with a bunch of goodies besides. How you play is up to you, but we highly recommend giving Yakuza a shot if you’ve never tried it before. The series isn’t just a solid brawler, but it’s also renowned for its engaging narratives, beautiful graphics, and the bustling hubbub of Kamurocho.
