Thanks to a recent interview with Tetsuya Takahashi, executive producer of Xenoblade Chronicles X, we now know a little more about how the Wii U GamePad will be featured in the upcoming RPG.
“We decided that it would be perfect to use as a navigation device, in the same way that a lot of tablet computers are,” explained Takahashi. “We’ve put some important features relating to the game system and your objectives onto the GamePad, so I feel that this should create a very user-friendly experience for players.”
Maps seem to be the go-to use for the GamePad among many developers, so I personally hope we will still see some more innovative uses for the GamePad in the final product. Regardless, be sure to stay on the lookout because there will undoubtedly be many more details about this highly anticipated game between now and when it finally releases sometime next year.

I like the idea of innovation on the gamepad… but if the gamepad is used as a glorified map in Xenoblade Chronicles X (hopefully allowing the main screen to have fewer overlays and UI components) then that’s good enough for me.
Can’t remember ever being this excited about a yet-to-be-released game. Xenoblade Chronicles X can’t get here soon enough.
