Fans had a feeling there might be some big news for this, the thirtieth anniversary Pokémon Presents showcase that aired earlier this morning. And indeed the news was quite big, as the next two installments in the Pokémon mainline series were revealed. Take your first look at Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves in this announcement trailer:

The region name is being kept under wraps, but what we do know is that Winds and Waves will be taking place in a tropical location of some sort. There, Trainers will encounter “an open world to explore, with beautiful windswept islands and a vast ocean with glittering waves.” The new starters are as follows:

Browt

  • Category: Bean Chick Pokémon
  • Type: Grass
  • Height: 1′ (0.3 m)
  • Weight: 7.7 lbs. (3.5 kg)
  • Ability: Overgrow

Pombon

  • Category: Puppy Pokémon
  • Type: Fire
  • Height: 1′4″ (0.4 m)
  • Weight: 14.8 lbs. (6.7 kg)
  • Ability: Blaze

Gecqua

  • Category: Water Gecko Pokémon
  • Type: Water
  • Height: 1′ (0.3 m)
  • Weight: 9.5 lbs. (4.3 kg)
  • Ability: Torrent

Here’s a bit more about the game from the press release:

Your main character will sport a different outfit depending on which version of the game you play—and of course, you’ll set out with one of three first partner Pokémon. Will you choose a Grass type by partnering with Browt, the lively but clumsy Bean Chick Pokémon? Or perhaps you’ll heat things up with a Fire type by picking Pombon, the guileless and friendly Puppy Pokémon. If Water types are more your speed, then the intelligent Water Gecko Pokémon, Gecqua, might be the partner for you.

Beyond all that, trailer heavily implies that there might be some underwater exploration to look forward to. As we learn more, we’ll be sure to update you all. Are you excited for Winds and Waves? Share with us in the comments and on social media!
