Before Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire even saw release, the pair broke a number of records. Now that the games are actually available, they’re continuing to do just that. According to Chart-Track, the games saw the best UK debut in the history of the franchise. An impressive feat, to say the least!
Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire took the sixth and seventh spots on the UK All Format Charts, respectively. The titles outsold last year’s Pokémon X and Y by 17 percent. This is all the more surprising considering that X and Y were completely original titles, while Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are based on a pair of Game Boy Advance titles from over a decade ago. Nintendo representatives believe the recent demo release helped spur sales. While it’s hard to say conclusively, it’s certainly one possible explanation.
Unfortunately, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U did not perform as strongly. The game did manage to capture the 13th position on the charts, but there are a few factors to keep in mind. First, the UK All Format Charts lump together games from different formats (hence the title). That means that copies of Super Smash Bros. on Nintendo 3DS are also factored into that number. The charts do not include digital downloads of the game, however, and there have been reported shortages of the title. Demand might be higher than supply right now. We’ll have to wait and see how the game performs throughout the season to know for sure.
Stay tuned to Nintendojo, where we’ll have more information on how the games are selling in the coming weeks!
