The market for collectibles can be a little odd. Pristine examples of rare and desirable toys from bygone eras can bring big bucks, but often times what proves most rare aren’t the shining examples of perfection, but the one in a million mistakes that make their way past quality assurance. One Nintendo fan was obviously aware of this concept when he picked came across a Samus Amiibo with two arm cannons and posted it on eBay for collectors fight over.
The auction has come to a close and the rare/malformed figure has been sold for $2500 USD. Considering the fact that Amiibos currently retail for about $13, that makes this roughly a 192 times return on investment. Of course, now we can’t help but wonder what the figure will be worth years, or decades down the line and if the new owner bought it as an investment or simply a collectible for their personal collection.
Considering Nintendo’s usually stellar reputation for quality control, I personally can’t help but wonder if the release of this figure was intentional as Nintendo’s way of slyly revealing Samus’s new look for a more action packed outing.
