During the special Nintendo Direct: The Super Mario Bros. Movie broadcast, fans got their best look yet at the upcoming film. First off, that’s the official title of the picture: The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The broadcast started off with Shigeru Miyamoto and then eventually transitioned into Chris Pratt and Jack Black, Mario and Bowser respectively, discussing their roles. Then… the footage rolled. Check it out:
The brief clip starts off with Bowser and his minions assaulting a frozen penguin kingdom. The penguins should be familiar to fans of Super Mario 64 and the Super Mario Galaxy games. Once defeated, Bowser gloats about getting his hands on a Power Star and asks who could possibly defeat him. Enter Mario, who bursts through some kind of portal into the Mushroom Kingdom. He meets Toad, who begins to guide him on his journey. Finally, the trailer ends with a brief snippet of Luigi on the run from some enemies.
The footage is stuffed with details to soak in, ones that longtime Nintendo fans will relish in plucking out and sharing with one another. This writer certainly felt a pang or two of pure emotion watching the trailer. The Super Mario Bros. Movie comes to theaters on April 7—did this clip get you invested in wanting to see it?
