Following in the footsteps of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen!

This is technically an old rumor at this point, but with the recent update of Pokémon Home to version 4.1.0, fans are convinced that a certain pair of GBA games are on the way. Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, the third generation of Pokémon games, have been getting a lot of talk lately because of the launch of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen earlier this year. Now, users are surmising that because there is a new icon labeled GBA Games, plural, it must mean that Nintendo is gearing up to rerelease Ruby and Sapphire.

That’s not the only reason, however. Back when FireRed and LeafGreen were released, dataminers discovered that connectivity between those two games and unreleased Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald (the third title from that generation) ROMs was enabled in the source code. “Why have it there if it isn’t going to be used” pretty much sums up people’s interpretation of that info. Also adding substance to this rumor was a video of Ruby/Sapphire gameplay shared by the official Japanese Pokémon X account that was clearly in crisp HD. Throw it all together, and you have the makings for a perfectly reasonable theory about Ruby and Sapphire coming to Switch and/or Switch 2.
One last thing: the datamine asserted that Nintendo was eyeing an October 2026 launch, so if the two games are on their way, it might be soon. If we learn more, we’ll share it with all of you.
