Fans were in a tizzy recently when the Wii and DSi Shops both suddenly went offline out of the blue. Nintendo hadn’t announced that either shop would be getting shut down, but with no word at all from the company about the closures, many wondered if perhaps both had been unceremoniously shuttered. As it turns out, that is not that case—Nintendo has finally offered the following update to Kotaku:
The Wii Shop Channel and Nintendo DSi Shop are currently undergoing maintenance…We will provide an update at a later date.
Maintenance is the reason, but the “why” of it remains a mystery. Are changes underway? Will the maintenance be followed by imminent closure? We’ll keep you all updated as we learn more.
