Outside of Pokémon, Nintendo characters don’t often show up on television. Older fans may remember The Super Mario Bros. Super Show, Captain N: The Game Master and The Legend of Zelda cartoons from the early 90s, but since then, Nintendo shows have been few and far between. According to a new article in the Wall Street Journal, that could soon change. The paper reports that Netflix and Nintendo have started work on a live action Zelda series!
While this is exciting news to say the least, the land of Hyrule is likely a ways away from reaching the small screen. Netflix is reportedly still looking for a writer for the series. The original source states that the company hopes the series will be akin to Game of Thrones, but a bit more family friendly. Officially, Nintendo and Netflix have yet to issue any sort of confirmation.
Readers should keep in mind that this is far from a sure thing. A Metroid film was supposedly in the works years ago, but that never panned out. The fact of the matter is that Nintendo is notoriously careful about their properties. Still, given Netflix’s track record with strong original content like House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, the company seems like a good fit for the project.

Well, it’s finally happened. Something has come along (well, potentially) that makes me think I may need to try Netflix. Though maybe Nintendo would provide Wii U owners with some other means to buy or stream the show as well.
In any case, if this happens, I’ll binge-watch the entire series. Excuuuse me for being a ridiculous Zelda fan. ;^)
