Nicalis, the publisher of several 3DS eShop classics such as Cave Story and NightSky, has announced that it will be bringing another retro-themed adventure to the service, this time a 16-bit RPG titled Grinsia.
Developed by Kemco, Grinsia is an SNES-styled role-playing game originally released for mobile phones. Nicalis’ version will feature a myriad of improvements over the original, boasting a completely re-localized script, a new soundtrack, a day and night system, as well as dual screen support. You can see the game’s announcement trailer below.

RPGs are a hard-sell with only a short trailer to judge from.
The game *looks* like it was made for cell phones – graphics and design are unimpressive, and calling it “SNES-styled” doesn’t change the fact that everything looks clunky. But appearances can be deceiving. If the story and characters are well-written and compelling, and if priced competitively on the eShop, then this game could be something special. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Worth noting that you can find reviews for the Android/iOS versions. Scores are mixed, which is a big warning sign from me considering how generous Android/iOS sites usually are with their review scores. Frankly, I’m not expecting much.
