Precursor Games announced Tuesday that it is suspending the ongoing crowdfunding campaign for Shadow of the Eternals. All money put into the project so far is being refunded to the backers in full, and Precursor plans to re-launch the campaign for Eternals soon. Why? Apparently “new exciting opportunities” have arisen which have changed Precursor’s plan.
From the official announcement:
Since we announced this Kickstarter campaign we have seen more support from our community than we had ever hoped for. Along with this support has come a host of a new exciting opportunities that will make the game better than we envisioned. As a result, we have chosen to temporarily take down the Shadow of the Eternals crowdfunding campaigns on both Kickstarter and our own website on Thursday, June 6.
What is the new vision for Shadow of the Eternals? It seems we may have to wait and see. In any case, the crowdfunding of the game is being cut short for now. So far, Precursor has gathered $285,572 on its own website and another $128,122 from Kickstarter. In total, they have earned $413,964 as of the time of this writing, which is less than one third of the original goal of $1.5 million.
Can we expect a much different game or plan when Precursor relaunched the Shadow of the Eternals project? Or has darkness fallen over the game?
