Here at Nintendojo, we’re big fans of interesting Kickstarter campaigns. With Wii U’s struggles, it’s refreshing to see so many independent developers working to bring new titles to the platform. The latest title we’ve seen is a game called ReVeN and it’s quite clear from the trailer and artwork that developer Varia Games has drawn heavy influence from the adventures of Samus. From the looks of things, fans of Nintendo’s infamous bounty hunter are going to want to keep eyes on this one. But don’t just take it from us! Watch the trailer, embedded below!
While the gameplay is clearly Metroid-inspired, there are some key differences that will make the experience a bit more than a carbon copy of the Nintendo franchise. Varia Games is promising local co-op, online multiplayer, a mission creator, RPG elements, voice acting, and more. Some of these features will depend on ReVeN achieving its stretch goals, however.
With 26 days to go, ReVeN is already at an impressive $8,000. At $18,000, the game is guaranteed to arrive on Wii U. However, it’s important to note that Varia Games has stated that the title will be a PC port at that stage. This means that the game will lack Wii U-exclusive features. If we want to see the game take full advantage of the Wii U interface and GamePad, Varia Games will have to hire an extra programmer, which will require the title to hit the $100,000 stretch goal. It’s also interesting to note that Varia Games won’t make this title for any other consoles unless it hits a $200,000 stretch goal, meaning this could very well end up as a Wii U-exclusive.
