Industry veteran and stalwart designer Hideo Kojima is the sort of creator who people stop and listen to when he decides to speak. Unless, of course, he decides he no longer wants to (or is unable to) speak, in which case there’s nothing to listen to. Such is the case with GDC 2026, which is coming up next month in San Francisco.
Kojima was slated to deliver a talk during the convention, but alas, that is no longer the case. Here’s the statement given by Kojima Productions via its X account:
Dear Porters and GDC Attendees
We regret to inform you that Hideo Kojima will no longer be able to attend this year’s GDC Festival of Gaming.
We understand that this will be disappointing for fans and attendees who were looking forward to hearing him speak, and we want to offer…— KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS (Eng) (@KojiPro2015_EN) February 6, 2026
The post offers no explanation for why Kojima is dipping out, but does attempt to make up for it by assuring fans that “KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS is still excited to be part of this year’s festival, with members of the team presenting during the week.” Well, that’s something, at least.
