Since the games first appeared on the eShop, the Gunman Clive titles have amassed a small, but faithful following. Developer Bertil Hörberg’s cowboy opus is currently available on 3DS and Wii U, but the title is now available on another format familiar to Nintendo fans: the Game Boy!
As an experiment, Hörberg decided to port the first level of the original Gunman Clive to the Game Boy format. Hörberg was able to successfully recreate the level, and it’s now available as a downloadable ROM. According to the developer, the project has already been downloaded more times than Gunman Clive 2 on Steam! While it’s unlikely he’ll continue remaking the game in this format, Hörberg has taken to Twitter to ask fans if they would be hypothetically interested in a Kickstarter campaign for a physical release for Gunman Clive: Game Boy Edition. It wouldn’t be the first new game released on an older platform, but it would be very nice to see, given the quality of the Gunman Clive titles!
You can download the ROM for Gunman Clive: Game Boy Edition here. If you have the required hardware, the title can be played on the Game Boy, Super Game Boy, Game Boy Color or Game Boy Advance. Yes, would love to see a physical release. While we’re at it, how about Shovel Knight on the SNES?
