Nintendo 3DS has proved its ability to crank out blockbuster hits, especially in its home country, time and time again. Well, it has just done it four more times. Over the course of the last five months, four titles have managed to sell 2 million copies each.
The titles to join this venerable are Pokémon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, Super Smash Bros. for 3DS, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, and Yo-kai Watch 2. Gamers outside of Japan should be plenty familiar with the recent Pokémon remakes and Super Smash Bros., but the latter two on the list have yet to be released outside of Japan, though Monster Hunter 4 is scheduled to reach North American and European shores early next year.
Neither games in the Yo-Kai franchise have made their way outside of Japan, which is surprising, yet not that surprising at the same time. The games come from acclaimed developer Level-5 and have been successful enough to spawn an anime, manga, and various licensed products, but the core of the game might be a little more of a tough sell outside of its home country. While the games have a bit in common with Pokémon, the creatures you collect are cutened-up versions of Yokai, traditional Japanese demons and spirits– something that might not translate perfectly for non-Japanese audiences.
Regardless, be sure to stay tuned to see when/if these blockbusters will be heading to your country.
