While the announcement of Metroid Prime 4 was more than enough to excite Metroid fans, Nintendo held another surprise in store for those that watched the Treehouse stream after: the debut of a new Metroid title for 3DS!
Metroid: Samus Returns is a new take on the character’s original handheld debut, Metroid II: The Return of Samus. Developed by MercurySteam, the title features the kind of classic, 2D Metroid gameplay that fans have been waiting for since 2004’s Metroid: Zero Mission. The game will also feature Amiibo support and a special edition will see release, which includes a copy of the game’s soundtrack!

Metroid: Samus Returns will release on September 15.
